Science leaves JSTOR; librarians concerned (10/23/2007)

As was suggested in the article, the American Association for the Advancement of Science could continue to keep Science in JSTOR and still create their own digital archives for profiteering purposes. Whether the AAAS will reconsider remains to be seen.

In other news, the Max Planck Society, which runs 80 research institutes (roughly the equivalent of all the labs run by NIH, DOE, and NASA, as one librarian put it) recently stopped subscribing to Springer journals due to concerns over price and open access.

EDIT (2/15/08): Springer Journals and Max Planck have reached a 2-year compromise. Not many details though.
