    Female protagonists underrepresented in picture books (5/04/2007)

    Of popular titles published mainly between 1995 and 2001, 95 had male leads and 52 had female leads. Also, "[w]omen were... typically portrayed as 'nurturers' who often had no occupations. And if they did work outside the home, they generally held gender-stereotyped jobs such as a secretary."
