    Dewey Decimated: A Bibliomystery (6/27/2006)

Just finished reading a fun murder mystery called Dewey Decimated, by Charles Goodrum, who worked at the Library of Congress from 1948 to 1978. As the title suggests, the murder takes place in a library, the fictional Werner Bok in Washington D.C. I don't think librarians are much different from other folks in our appreciation of good fictional takes on our profession. A vanity search revealed 1511 WorldCat libraries and 102 CalCat libraries in possession of this title. Other Werner Bok mysteries include The Best Cellar, Carnage of the Realm, and A Slip of the Tong.

In the realm of "bibliomysteries", I consider myself a dabbler, having read and loved A.S. Byatt's Possession : A Romance many years ago (and then despising the movie). However, now that I have this wonderful reading list compiled by Abby Alpert at the Evanston Public Library, I've got more than enough titles for a full immersion in this sub-genre for the summer.
