    Gilmore Girls visit Harvard (3/15/2005)

We headed off across a large green lawn, sipping our coffee and absorbing all the scenery. Coffee plus Harvard. Now it was really perfect.

Then I saw it. The thing that until now I'd only managed to worship from afar. It was right there, in front of me. I stopped walking and gazed up at its white columns with respect. "Oh my."

    "What's this?" Mom asked.

    "The library!"

    "Oh."

"The biggest library I've ever seen!" I stared at it, somewhat overwhelmed.

Mom checked her guidebook for the facts. "Uh oh. Brace yourself."

    "What?" I asked.

"This is just one of the libraries," she said.

    "One of the libraries?"

"This building is one component of a thirteen-million-volume collection housed in more than ninety different libraries," she announced. "It's the oldest library in the United States, and the largest academic library in the world."

I stared at the building. How could one building be so incredible?
