Librarians in Ohio Working 24/7 (9/08/2004)

Ohio State Library launched its 24/7 virtual reference service yesterday, three years after the Library of Congress along with 100 or so other libraries around the world first made this service available in 2001 (Chronicle of Higher Ed.) Other states currently offering 24/7 online reference include California, Delaware, Maryland, Idaho, North Carolina, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Wisconsin.

In related news, last month MCLS and OCLC joined forces to combine 24/7 Reference and Question Point, the two preeminent online reference software packages. MCLS's 24/7 Reference software is used by over 500 libraries, including universities such as Yale, the Claremont Colleges, and the California State University, as well as public libraries nationwide, including the states mentioned above. OCLC's Question Point is used in 1,000 libraries in 20 countries.
